Do you run tuna trips out of Ponce Inlet?

Yes, starting in May 2027. Our Tuna Run runs out of Ponce Inlet in New Smyrna Beach. It leaves at 3 AM and is back by 7 PM. Online booking isn't open yet, so send an inquiry on the Tuna Run page and Capt. Eric will put you on the list for the first dates.

How much does a tuna fishing trip from New Smyrna Beach cost?

The Tuna Run starts at $3,000 plus fuel for up to 4 anglers. Fuel is paid at the dock after the trip, based on what we burn. Up to 6 can fish, and Eric quotes extra anglers when he calls you back. Nothing is charged when you inquire. A tip for the mate is customary.

What does a tuna trip day look like?

  • 3:00 AM: leave the ramp
  • 6:00 AM: lines in
  • 3:00 PM: lines out
  • 7:00 PM: back at the ramp

That's 15+ hours ramp to ramp, with about 9 hours of fishing. There are bean bags on deck, so most people sleep on the run out.

What fish do you target on a tuna trip?

Yellowfin tuna are the main target, and we fish for mahi on the same trip.

What boat do you use for tuna fishing?

A smooth-riding catamaran with Capt. Eric McPherson at the helm. It has bean bags for napping on the way out and a head (restroom) on board, which matters on a 15-hour day.

Should I fish for tuna out of Ponce Inlet or Port Canaveral?

Both ports get you to bluewater. If you're staying in New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Port Orange or anywhere else in Volusia County, Ponce Inlet is the closer port, so you skip the drive down to Canaveral before a 3 AM start.

I get seasick. Is a tuna trip right for me?

Think it over first. It's a long day on the open ocean. A catamaran usually rides smoother than a single-hull boat, but there's still ocean swell. Our inshore trips stay in sheltered water, and the Trip Finder can point you to a better fit.

Can I go offshore before tuna season starts?

Yes. Our Offshore Deep Sea trip goes after mahi, kingfish, snapper and grouper out of Ponce Inlet, from $1,200 for 6 hours with 6 anglers included. More on our deep sea fishing page.
